Buzz Solutions

PowerAI is a software platform that allows electric utilities to maximize the value of visual data from aerial and ground level power infrastructure inspections. The software automates visual inspection data management, mapping and condition analysis using pre-trained AI algorithms.

PowerAI – new 2.0 release!

Utilities have been using PowerAI software to modernize inspection image analysis for several years. We’ve learned from customer deployments and our development team has released a new version, 2.0, with many improvements including a new user interface.

PowerAI 2.0 Improvements

Enhanced data management
PowerAI’s management of projects, structures, images and labels is now more optimized for the structure-based inspection architecture. Plus, with PowerAI 2.0, data management is scalable to millions of images and more cybersecure.
More integrations
PowerAI now integrates with ESRI’s ArcGIS to map structures within inspection image data. Also, after image analysis, annotated issue detections can be integrated with asset management and work order systems, as well as GIS.
Human-in-the-loop capabilities
PowerAI includes enhanced human review tools and features to enable users and inspectors to complete reviews faster and more easily.

PowerAI Capabilities

PowerAI is known for the accuracy of its AI detections of power system condition anomalies, but a more complete way to understand PowerAI is to look at the process that it automates. This process transforms inspection image data into actionable insights and PowerAI enables utilities to accelerate each step of the workflow.

PowerAI Workflow

Inspection image data management, analysis and reporting process

Ingest
PowerAI supports data from a range of sources, from drones and other UAVs, to helicopters and ground-level cameras. Thousands of images can be ingested in one step and PowerAI can also integrate with cloud storage.
Prioritize
PowerAI helps utilities prioritize maintenance issues by severity level to ensure that the most critical issues are addressed with work orders first.
Map Structures
PowerAI uses geospatial metadata or ESRI ArcGIS to seamlessly map structures (poles and towers) with IDs and information. With the 2.0 release, PowerAI improves structure-based management of inspection data.
Report
PowerAI includes a set of standard reports in PDF, Excel, CSV or JSON file formats to share inspection analysis and human-in-the-loop results with utility stakeholders.
Process
PowerAI automates asset identification and anomaly detection with dozens of mature, highly accurate AI models for insulators, poles, crossarms, towers,  conductors, nests, and vegetation.
Integrate
PowerAI includes APIs to enable integration of inspection results with asset management systems, GIS, and work order systems. These integrations allow utilities to gain the full value of inspection insights.
Analyze
PowerAI supports human-in-the-loop processes for inspectors to review  findings before actions are triggered. The software includes an enhanced polygon tool for highlighting and annotating images.

How PowerAI Helps

PowerAI helps utilities in several ways.  Asset management is improved with a better understanding of system components at each structure and reliability is improved when system anomalies are quickly identified and addressed. Also, productivity increases as most of the image analysis workload is automated.
Improved asset management
PowerAI can be used in combination with aerial inspections to quickly and cost-effectively identify assets at each pole or tower. For example, are insulators porcelain, polymer or glass? This information is valuable for capacity planning and asset replacement programs.

Increased reliability due to proactive maintenance
When system anomalies are caught and addressed early,  reliability increases and costs are reduced. With aerial
inspections and PowerAI software inspection work can be done more quickly, with less resources, and achieve higher issue detection rates.
Enhanced productivity through automated analysis
Using drones for inspections and PowerAI software for data analysis, utilities can complete more  thorough
inspections in less time, with far fewer resources. This frees up utility workers from repetitive image analysis to focus on more strategic work.

Cybersecure management of utility data
PowerAI’s cloud deployment is SOC 2 and ISO 27001 compliant. Buzz Solutions completed proper risk assessments and penetration tests and implemented security policies and procedures to protect sensitive customer data.
Improved safety by climbing only when needed
When inspections are completed with drones and PowerAI software, line workers don’t need to climb as many structures. By automating the identification of defects and anomalies, utility safety is improved, and line workers can focus more time on repairs.
Asset images can be analyzed in hours or days rather than months and allow our maintenance groups to prioritize repairs and reduce the potential of failure.”
